An apartment complex containing asbestos located at 1821 22nd St. got fire early morning Monday. Firefighters acted quickly at the Holly Apartment complex close to the Colorado University campus.

Sarah Huntley, public information officer for the Boulder Fire Department said firefighters worked at the Holly Apartment Complex around 2:30 a.m.

Fire marshall said that crews worked on the fire from the outside of the building.

Investigators assume that a juniper bush caught fire outer the building and quickly spread up through the apartment complex.

No injuries have been reported to the residents or crews. However, three or four units sustained some fire damage. All the residents inside the 31-unit complex were sent away before the fire marshall reached at the spot.

Firefighters used protective gear during the job as asbestos was present inside the drywall.

According to the fire marshall, residents have to wait up to a day before returning to their homes as the air quality of the apartment building is to be tested. Airborne asbestos can cause severe health issues and deadly diseases such as mesothelioma.

The cause of the fire is being investigated.
